Some great wedding hair & makeup styling tips from the lovely Lisa from Makeup 4 brides
Why use a professional makeup artist?
Professionally trained makeup artists know how to emphasize your features and perhaps downplay the parts you wish to hide. They can emphasize your eyes or draw out your cheek bones; perhaps even create bigger eyebrows or maybe tone down your nose. These are skills that your professional makeup artist is trained in that can make them a valuable asset to your overall wedding day look.
To prime or not to prime?
This is an interesting question as we’ve been bombarded to believe that we should use a primer at all times; however, personally I tend to disagree. I carry primers with me always, as well as mattifiers, but only use them where they are needed. Unfortunately many primers, like heavy moisturisers, are designed to attract moisture to your face and a wedding makeup artist needs to ensure your makeup is going to last 10 – 12 hours or longer. The creation of your perfect bridal makeup the artist needs the base to be as matte as possible and this may not be the case if a primer is used.
Facials – are great to have (and let’s face it…are worth doing just for the relaxation factor) but whatever you do, please don’t have your first ever facial the week leading up to your wedding day. You have no idea how your skin is going to react – your skin may break out or have a reaction to a new product, which you most certainly don’t want for your wedding day. If you plan to undergo facial treatments then try to start them a few months out from your wedding day and work out a care plan with your beautician specifically designed for your own skin type.
Communicate with your makeup artist – I’ve been a makeup artist for a long time and every makeup artist that I know has a real passion for their job and takes tremendous pride in their work. To achieve the look you are wanting, good communication is needed, the makeup artist wants to know what your likes and dislikes are. This this is the only way they can give you exactly what you want. Never be afraid to speak up and ask questions. Your makeup artist should encourage feedback and most will be prepared to make changes if you are not happy with something
